I remember gazing at the 3D ultrasound of my son, which I decided to frame a few days after receiving it. I suppose another person would have found it difficult to make out what was what, exactly, in that image. But I could see him clear as day, nestled there snuggly, my long sought after Nathaniel (“Gift from God”). That moment inspired the two “Nathaniel” paintings you can find in the gallery.

I couldn’t think of a more worthy subject matter. I began seeking ultrasound images from friends and family, to share with them my attempts to capture a bit of the magic and joy of life, in utero. Please contact me if you or a loved one would enjoy a similarly commissioned work.

Since beginning my journey to capture life in utero, via watercolor, I’ve become vividly more aware at how precious and fleeting life can be. In an effort to comfort a dear friend who lost a child, I painted a remembrance for her based on an ultrasound image taken weeks prior to her daughter’s passing. This kind of work has become a small, but very special, ministry to me. If you or a loved one has lost a child and would like a similar token of remembrance, please do contact me at bam@lifeart.studio.
